Housing sales across Türkiye increased by 17.6% in May compared to the same month last year, reaching 130,025 units.
According to the announcement made by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the provinces with the highest number of housing sales were Istanbul, with 22,103 units, Ankara, with 11,975, and Izmir, with 7,817. The provinces with the lowest number of sales were Ardahan, with 48, Bayburt, with 67, and Gümüşhane, with 91.
Housing Sales Increased by 25.4% in the January–May Period.
In the January–May period, housing sales rose by 25.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching 584,170 units.
Mortgaged Home Sales Reached 19,412
Across Türkiye, mortgaged home sales in May rose by 95.9% compared to the same month last year, reaching 19,412 units. The share of mortgaged sales within total housing sales was 14.9%. In the January–May period, mortgaged home sales increased by 98.7% compared to the same period last year, totalling 88,606 units.
Of these, 4,674 mortgaged home sales in May and 21,062 in the January–May period were first-time sales.
Sales through other (non-mortgaged) means increased by 9.9% in May compared to the same month last year, reaching 110,613 units. These made up 85.1% of total housing sales. During the January–May period, these other types of home sales rose by 17.7% to 495,564 units.
First-Time Home Sales Reached 39,546
The number of first-time home sales across Türkiye in May increased by 11.2% compared to the same month last year, totalling 39,546. The share of first-time sales in total housing sales was 30.4%. In the January–May period, first-time home sales increased by 17.7% year-on-year, totalling 174,055 units.
90,479 Second-Hand Homes Were Sold
Second-hand home sales increased by 20.6% in May compared to the same month last year, reaching 90,479 units. These accounted for 69.6% of total housing sales. In the January–May period, second-hand home sales rose by 29.0% year-on-year to 410,115 units.
1,771 Homes Sold to Foreigners in May
Home sales to foreigners in May totalled 1,771 units. Sales to foreigners made up 1.4% of total housing sales. The provinces with the highest number of sales to foreigners were Istanbul (648), Antalya (594), and Mersin (145).
In the January–May period, home sales to foreigners totalled 7,789 units.
