Turkish scientist Canan Dağdeviren has sent her wearable ultrasound device, developed for the early detection of breast cancer, into space along with six women aboard a rocket launched by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin.
Canan Dağdeviren shared a post about this on her social media account, stating:
"Let this be recorded in history: Today is April 14, 2025. As someone educated in the system of the Atatürk Republic, which offers equality for all, I sent my wearable ultrasound device to space — something I started working on years ago — along with the first all-female space crew in history."
The spaceflight, organised by Blue Origin, included Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, who embarked on a roughly 10-minute journey into space.
Associate Professor Dr. Canan Dağdeviren, a faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), sent her “electronic bra”—a wearable ultrasound device for early breast cancer detection—into space with the six women.
In her social media post, she used the hashtags #Atatürk and #thefutureisintheskies (referring to Atatürk’s famous quote “İstikbal göklerdedir”), and wrote:
"LET THIS BE RECORDED IN HISTORY"

"THE REPUBLIC WAS A GUARDIAN FOR THE FORGOTTEN"
"This is just the beginning. The Republic was the guardian of the forgotten for my ancestors who set out from Sivas. I dedicate the technology we invented to all beings who face injustice and oppression; you are not alone. Your struggle will continue to shine and guide like the stars. Yes, ‘The future is in the skies.’"
