Istanbul reached the highest number of foreign tourists every month in the last ten years with 1 million 759 thousand 506 people it hosted in July of this year.
According to the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism data, the number of foreign tourists visiting the city was 8 million 514 thousand 806 in the 7th month of the year. On July, 1 million 759 thousand 506 tourists visited Istanbul.
While 1 million 130 thousand 999 tourists came to the city in July last year, an increase of 56 per cent was recorded this year compared to the same period of 2021. On July, 1 million 730 thousand 679 people arrived in Istanbul by air, and 28 thousand 827 arrived by sea. Compared to the same period last year, arrivals in Istanbul by air increased by 53 per cent, while appearances by sea increased by 894 per cent.
In July 2022, 1759 passengers entered via Ataturk Airport, 458 thousand 87 via Sabiha Gökçen Airport and 1 million 270 thousand 833 via Istanbul Airport. 72.23 per cent of the tourists arriving by air used Istanbul Airport, and 26.03 per cent used Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
German tourists took first place in July.
Germans took the first place with 142 thousand 77 tourists coming to Istanbul in July, just like the previous month. Russia followed Germany with 133 thousand 218 tourists, the USA with 97 thousand 355 tourists, Iran with 94 thousand 708 tourists, Saudi Arabia with 77 thousand 613 tourists, and the UK with 70 thousand 179 tourists, respectively. France followed with 69,314 tourists.
Turkey hosted tourists from Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, the Netherlands, Israel, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Italy.
