NEWS Istanbul Municipality heralds new fast subway project to connect two ends of Istanbul

Ekrem IMAMOGLU, the mayor of Istanbul has announced that an auction for a new metro line between Beylikdüzü-Sabiha Gökçen Airport, will be held this year. The line, called the “SPEED-LINE” (HIZRAY), will be 72 km long and enable a travel time of one hour, only.

Two more new metro lines to Istanbul are planned.

The new line will extend from one end of Istanbul to the other, covering 72 kilometers from Beylikdüzü to Pendik.

The speed-line scheduled to be auctioned this year will be reduce the travelling time between the two distances to about 1 hour thanks to a speed of 70-80 km per hour.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has organized a meeting under the name "Big moves in rail systems". Speaking at the meeting held at the Haliç Congress Center, mayor Ekrem IMAMOGLU said, "The main backbone of Istanbul's public transport system must be rail systems."

IMAMOGLU also noted following; "The Ministry of Transport and infrastructure will also complete 91.5 kilometers of lines. This way, Istanbul's rail system network will reach 424.85 kilometers. Together with the new lines whose projects we have prepared our total network will increase to 622.15 kilometers, in 2024-2029.

It was informed by the municipality that in addition to above projects the Rumeli Hisarı - Aşiyan funicular line would be opened in On the other hand, 2 new funicular lines will also be built between ITU - Istinye, Altunizade - Beylerbeyi.
