NEWS Minister of Transport says metro line to Istanbul Airport scheduled to open in April 2021

Minister of transport and infrastructure Adil KARAISMAILOGLU said "we plan to work on the KAGITHANE-GAYRETTEPE Airport Metro Line to receive passengers at the end of April.” The Minister examined said Metro Line at Gokturk construction site and made some important statements.

Minister of Transport said “we are planning to open KAGITHANE – AIRPORT Metro Line by the end of April 2021 and Gayrettepe – Metro line next year.”

The Minister who examined the work done on the spot and received information from the authorities, then made statements to the press.

The Minister also said that they spent substantial effort for Turkey to develop and progress in terms of economy, social welfare, science an alike and become a world leader in many areas. He went on to say, “We are working to have a superior infrastructure in passenger, cargo and data transportation and to increase security, efficiency and comfort with digitalized, intelligent transportation systems."

KARAISMAILOGLU who gave information about the work done in Istanbul, pointed out that in order to improve the quality of life of Istanbulites, they had equipped the city with a modern metro network.

He drew attention to the point that a metro construction of 91 kilometers was continuing to include the 37.5 km long GAYRETTEPE-KAGITHANE-AIRPORT line and shared following information:

We plan to open the KAGITHANE-ISTANBUL Airport Line by the end of April 2021, and the Gayrettepe line following year. Again, the continuation of this line between the airport and Halkalı will be operational in 2022. We continue our work with a huge staff of 4,500 people on the Gayrettepe-Kağıthane-Istanbul Airport Line."

The maximum speed limit of existing subways in our country is 80 kilometers, but our Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport Metro line is designed to speed 120 km per hour."

The minister also noted that 75 percent progress had been made in the construction of 9 stations within the scope of the GAYRETTEPE-KAGITHANE-ISTANBUL Airport Metro line.

He noted that Istanbul would have a metro network of about 324 km when all projects are finished and the airport will be within 30 minutes reach from the city center.
