NEWS Minister of Transport says Turkey’s airports served 209 million 92,548 passengers in 2019

2019 was certainly a very important year for Turkey as Istanbul Airport went into operation in said year. It certainly contributed to Turkey’s tourism despite some incomplete parts or services to be finished in the coming period.

On the other hand Turkey enjoyed a fruitful tourism season in 2019 and airports of this country experienced some heavy traffic in said year. Within this context Minister of Transport and Infrastructure made an announcement stating Turkey’s airports had served 209 million 92,548 passengers in 2019.

The Minister shared aircraft, passenger and freight statistics prepared by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) for the year 2019.

Accordingly, the number of planes landing at and taking off from concerned airports is 62,442 in domestic lines, and 43,890 in international lines in December of last year. On the other hand the total air traffic served reached 144,724 in same year.

In the same month, domestic passenger traffic in airports serving throughout Turkey was 7 million 298 thousand 489, international passenger traffic was 6 million 164 thousand 431.

Thus, the total passenger traffic with direct transit passengers in the month in question became 13 million 474 thousand 156. As of December, airports freight (cargo, mail and baggage) traffic reached 277 thousand 168 tons, including 56 thousand 132 tons on domestic routes and 221 thousand 36 tons on international routes.

During January-December period of 2019, the number of departing /landing aircraft became 839 thousand 850 in domestic lines and 713 thousand 651 in international lines. Last year a total of 2 million 30 thousand 291 aircraft were served.
