2 Apr 2020

Turkey has reached out to Spain and Italy, 2 of the countries most affected by Kovid-19 in the world, and sent them medical supplies in support of the fight against the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19).  Referring to Turkey's assistance NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg said, “I am proud that our NATO allies are supporting each other via a disaster relief center".

Thousands of medical aid materials such as masks and clothing, manufactured with local and national facilities in military factories under the Ministry of National Defense (MSB), sewing houses and machinery and chemical industry institution and antibacterial liquid were loaded onto military cargo aircraft at Etimesgut Military Airport.

On the crates containing the sent materials, a wise saying of “Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi” who was a famous Turkish philosopher, was printed in Italian and Spanish. The saying read, “There are many hopes behind the despair. There are many suns behind the darkness”.

The plane, carrying aid from Turkey, flew to Spain first with Italy as the second destination.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the medical supplies shipment of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) to Italy and Spain was a clear indication of alliance solidarity.

Stoltenberg also shared a photo of the plane carrying medical supplies to Italy and Spain on his Twitter account, saying: "NATO solidarity is in operation. Turkey is sending a cargo plane carrying medical supplies to Italy and Spain today to support our joint combatant with coronavirus disease.
