It is reported that the number of foreign visitors to Turkey in the January-July period increased by 128.28 percent, compared to the same period last year,

Professionals commenting on Turkey's 2022 tourism season say, “In 2023, 50 million tourists are expected, corresponding to an increase of about 40 percent in the international demand for Turkey”.

Based on data announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of foreign visitors increased by 128.28 percent in the January-July period, compared to the 7 months of the previous year and became 23 million 30 thousand 209. Among countries sending the highest number of visitors to Turkey, Germany became first with 2,992,551 visitors corresponding to an increase of 128.8 percent compared to the same “7-month period” last year. Russia was second on the list with 2,197,331 tourists reaching a rise of 41.36 percent, and the UK ranked third with 1,810,248 showing an increase of 2036 percent compared to the same period last year.

The average nightly expenditure of foreigners making accommodations was 81 dollars, while the average nightly price of Turkish citizens residing abroad was 65 dollars. During this period, the amount of expenditure of tourists per person was calculated as 845 dollars, and the average spending per night was estimated at 78 dollars. According to Master Card data, the countries that spent the most money per capita were Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands, Kuwait and Qatar. The average stay of tourists was 4.5 days, while German, Russian, British and Bulgarian tourists were hosted the most.

"WHEN DEMAND INCREASES, PRICES WILL INCREASE BY 25 PERCENT"

Given the good news that more than 50 million tourists are expected in 2023, tourism professionals say, “It is estimated that the number of tourists from Russia will hardly exceed 3 million with the effect of the ongoing war and the sanctions imposed. In 2023, the international demand for Turkey is expected to increase by about 40 percent. However, naturally, we will not be able to increase the supply of accommodation rooms at the same pace, so there is expected to be an increase in accommodation prices by about 25 percent in dollars and euros.”
