Good food is a privilege most of us are fortunate to enjoy. A leisurely lunch or delicious dinner is a joy, especially when it’s shared with family or good friends.
It can be daunting to try somewhere new, though, and fear of disappointment means we tend to stick to tried and trusted favourites. Given the range of excellent eateries in and around Antalya itself, that’s a shame – you’re missing out on some truly special places.
We’ve compiled a list of establishments currently attracting rave reviews from their customers. Whether you’re a permanent resident, a regular visitor or enjoying your first vacation in a private villa, take a look – variety is the spice of life, after all, and you might discover a new must-visit.
Urfa Sultan Sofrası
Described as a ‘hidden gem’ by one reviewer, Urfa Sultan Sofrası (Ur-fa Sultan Sof-ra-suh) serves Turkish food in an authentic setting. Located in Konyaaltı – a sought-after area for those looking to buy a dream home in Antalya – it’s popular with the locals, which is always a good sign.
The menu includes fish, pide (pea-day), lamahcun (lam-ah-jun), kebabs, guveç (goo-vetch) and many other dishes. If you’re looking for traditional, reasonably priced food, this is for you.
Rokka
While meat-free dishes are fairly easy to find, Rokka specialises in vegetarian and vegan food. (Don’t worry if you’re a mixed group, though – meat-based meals are also available). The menu is a fusion of Turkish, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, so there’s something to suit a variety of tastes.
The home-made falafel and hummus in particular get rave reviews, and the restaurant’s location by Hadrian’s Gate – just near Kaleiçi, the historic old town – adds to the experience. “I’ll keep it honest,” says one satisfied customer. “If you want to try something different and close to real Arabic food, this is the place.”
Seraser Fine Dining
As the name suggests, Seraser is a great choice if you’re looking for a special meal. Established in 2009, it’s developed a great reputation for combining international and traditional Turkish cuisine. It also has an extensive and varied wine cellar.
Set in Antalya’s Old Town, you’re sure of an evening to remember. High praise from recent diners includes: “Whoever awards Michelin Stars needs to visit this place. Service 10 out of 10; wine 10 out of 10; food 11/10. It’s that good.” We’ll add a handy hint too – leave room for dessert!
The Big Man Bistro & Café
Don’t let the somewhat touristy name put you off. The Big Man is not only a great place to visit for lunch or dinner, its fans also claim it serves the best Turkish breakfast you’ll find in Antalya.
Enjoy stunning sea views across the Mediterranean while you tuck into local cheeses and olives, free-range eggs, homemade jams and local honey, salads, fresh breads, seasonal fruits and more. The array of dishes seems endless, so make sure you go with an empty stomach!
Arkadaş Alabalık Restaurant
For something a little different, enjoy a delicious meal surrounded by the Antalya area’s natural beauty. The Arkadaş Alabalık Restaurant nestles right next to the Düden Waterfalls, with seating on platforms built right over the water.
The menu is primarily fish-based, as the name suggests, but a range of other dishes are also available including meat and vegetarian options, breakfast, and sublime desserts. The atmosphere is laidback and relaxed and, if you’re visiting in the heat of summer, you’ll appreciate the lower temperatures away from the coast.
