The summer holiday season in Antalya is slowly nearing its end, and soon the sunbeds and umbrellas will be packed away until that beautiful summer sun returns again next May. Millions of tourists visited Turkey this summer, and in particular Antalya, but over the winter season still many more will come to enjoy all this wonderful country has to offer. Not everyone is a sun-worshipper, and Turkey has so many magnificent regions to explore in both summer or winter that you could have a completely different experience here each year. And of course, many of those holiday makers are families. Whether you have toddlers, young children or young teens, Turkey is a totally family friendly destination that will allow you to do as much or as little as you like, even with kids in tow.
What is it that makes Turkey such a great place for families? When choosing a holiday destination, a major consideration is of course, the cost. Holidays can put a huge dent in the family budget but in travelling to Turkey from the UK or Europe, the exchange rate works fantastically in your favour, letting your well-earnt money go a long way in giving you the holiday you imagine. From accommodation to food, drinks, day trips, tickets, activities, transport so, you can head off to Turkey and spoil yourself without breaking the bank.
Next big draw card is its close proximity to the UK and Europe. With an average of 3 -4 hours flights from most European countries one can find themselves relaxing and enjoying your well earnt holiday.
There is so much to do in Turkey with teenage children to keep them occupied for hours! Let’s consider Antalya; there are beaches with music, shade, food and drink, entertainment and activities. They can swim, jet-ski, parasail, go on a jeep safari, quad-biking, horse riding, white water rafting, canyoning, coasteering and much more. And of course, that’s not just for them. Mum, dad and the whole family, even younger children, can have an incredible time doing these things. And the beach is great for kids and toddlers too. Obviously, they need supervision near the water, but a bucket to gather rocks, pebbles and sand has kept many a child blissfully occupied for hours. And the umbrellas for shade are an essential, but there are plenty of them and you will never be left out under the hot sun. When your family is tired of the beach, there are bikes and electric scooters to hire and you can very safely take yourself on a little trip along the beachfront on miles of bike tracks following the stunning coastline with café after café to stop off at and enjoy some delicious waffles or ice-cream or a lovely cold drink.
Most hotels have their own pools and if not, for a fee you can spend the day at one of the big hotels and use their facilities. Of course, if you are staying in one of the many fabulous 5-star resorts in Antalya, you will have the luxury of amazing creches, kids’ clubs and even teen clubs, all fully supervised and offering hours of age appropriate entertainment, giving mum and dad some welcome kid-free time, when you can indulge yourself in some superb spa treatments or just enjoy some peace and a lovely meal in a fabulous restaurant.
On the topic of food, Turkey is world famous for its incredible dishes, both sweet and savory, so even if you are travelling with the world’s fussiest eater, you will be certain to find an array of foods that will tempt even them.
Aside from the beach, your family can enjoy an amazing day at The Land of Legends theme park, riding on some of the world’s best roller-coasters and careering down the fastest, windiest water slides, check out the 5D cinema, have a relaxing afternoon at the aquarium with the world’s longest underwater tunnel, ride on the new giant Ferris-wheel for a birds-eye view of the city and coast, venture up the sky-lift for an eagles view, get physical at the adventure park, stroll the old town and much, much more.
So, the next time you are planning your holiday, definitely consider Turkey and more precisely, Antalya. The whole family will have a fantastic time and create some wonderful memories. And I guarantee, you’ll be putting it as your number one destination choice for many years to come.
