BLOG Where Are the Best Places to Live in Antalya?

21 May 2021 / Properties

If you’ve decided to buy property in Antalya, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing the location. The region offers the best of Mediterranean living, from the bustling metropolis of Antalya city to traditional villages.

Each area has its own delights, and where you decide to buy your Antalya home will depend on several factors. If you’re investing in a luxury holiday rental property, for example, the livelier resorts might suit you better; if you’re planning a permanent move, you’ll probably want somewhere more peaceful.

Our guide to some of the main areas in Antalya might help you narrow down your options a little.

Take a look at Alanya

In recent years, Alanya has become increasingly popular with both holidaymakers and expats. It’s a favourite with many first-time buyers who are just dipping a toe into the holiday lettings market.

Lying to the east of the province, Alanya benefits from its proximity to two airports – Antalya International is around a two-hour journey away, while Gazipaşa is some 38km in the other direction.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Taurus Mountains, Alanya boasts excellent bars and restaurants and is also home to the famous Cleopatra’s Beach, renowned as one of the finest in Turkey.

Especially popular is Mahmutlar, around 10km out of the main town, which is home to many Turkish and foreign property investors. The roads and local facilities have been modernised by the authorities, and the 5km stretch of beach is the perfect place to relax.  Alternatively, the Konaklı neighbourhood is also worth investigating – that sea view you’ve longed for is more affordable than you might think.

Beautiful Belek

A golf-lover’s paradise, Belek boasts more than 15 world class courses. Such exalted names as Tiger Woods have walked the greens here, and former US president Barack Obama played here during the G20 summit a few years ago.

It’s the perfect retirement spot for any enthusiast, while there is also a buoyant buy-to-let market – golfers from around the world come to Belek to enjoy the outstanding facilities.

The local beaches are within easy reach, and there are plenty of shops and amenities for everyday living. Antalya city is only a 40-minute drive away with its malls and main shopping area, too.

The delights of Kalkan

A glittering jewel in the crown of the Turkish Riviera, Kalkan is breathtakingly beautiful. The old town retains its traditional charm, while many of the exclusive villas combine uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean with the ultimate in elegant living.

If you dream of a luxury villa with an infinity pool in Kalkan, you won’t be disappointed. Stunning sea views are the norm, and properties here are superbly appointed with modern fixtures and fittings.

The newer part of town, Ortaalan, is popular among first-time buyers while those seeking a livelier vibe might prefer Kalamar, with its beach clubs and party atmosphere. If a stunning sea view is more important than being near the beach, you might like to consider Kızıltaş, which offers the best value per square metre but is still within walking distance of the old town.

If you’re buying a property as a holiday let, Kalkan is an excellent choice as it commands the highest rental yields in Antalya – typically between 9-10% annually in fewer than six months. For example, a villa like this will reach around GBP 2,500 per week during the peak summer months.

Lara Beach and Konyaaltı

If you prefer to be closer to the city and like an active social life, either Lara Beach or Konyaaltı could suit you perfectly. They’re the most popular places to buy property in Antalya and both have thriving expat communities.

Lara Beach offers easy access to sandy Blue Flag beaches but is also convenient for bars, restaurants, Antalya’s modern shopping malls and all the other amenities you would expect. Some areas are livelier than others, so if you prefer a more peaceful neighbourhood don’t worry – you’ll find those in Lara too.

Konyaaltı is very much up-and-coming, thanks largely to the Boğaçay Creek marina project. This ultra-modern development will attract members of the sailing community from around the world and the area is becoming increasingly sought-after. Combined with excellent local amenities and transport links, it ticks all the boxes and is a good place to get your foot firmly on the Antalya property ladder.

Family-friendly Side

Bursting with history, Side has a reputation for being one of the most family-friendly places in Antalya. It’s grown from a small fishing village to become a popular resort, with beautiful sandy beaches and a laid-back atmosphere.

Manavgat, a true Turkish working town, is especially popular with those seeking to buy a home in Side. It’s also convenient for international travel, as it’s just 54km from Antalya Airport. Side is also a good choice for those on a budget as it offers more bang for your buck than many other areas – prices per square metre are surprisingly affordable.
